Green Flag Or Red Flag Vijay Sethupathi Katrina Kaif Merry Christmas Movie
Nowadays there is a saying, “This guy is a walking Green Flag “. In the millennial way, it means that the man who will be by your side in both your pain and joy, will be happy with your success, and if you make a mistake, he will tell you with his eyes. Even if you are toxic, the wax light that covers your toxicity will make you love yourself.
Vijay Sethupathi’s character in Merry Christmas is a green flag for me. Yes, his past is not very favorable. Socially speaking, this is a big red flag. But we ourselves say that if a deed is truly repented of, it is freed from that guilt? And if that person shares his self-realization with another person, who is equally guilty, that’s a green flag to me.
A story of this tension between Green Flag and Red Flag is described in Merry Christmas. In the mid-eighties (I guess because of the dress, Mumbai city still called Bombay Naam and a still from Kabir Bedi’s movie Octupussy in a magazine) two men and a woman spend a Christmas night together, which makes nothing but a romantic story come to mind. But here’s the catch that it’s directed by Sriram Raghavan. No one knows what complicated and crooked things are hidden behind simple normal things. So in every scene, every moment there is a thought of what is happening. Slow build up but intense tension is the USP of the entire movie.
Nothing to say about film direction, screenplay, dialogues, just Chef’s kiss. What I like the most is the use of Vivaldi’s “Winter” in the background music of the film. Vivaldi’s composition adds a new dimension to the story progression. In terms of acting, Vijay Sethupathi is simply excellent. This is Katrina’s best performance till date. Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Ashwini Kalsekar, Pratima Kazmi, Tinu Anand left an impression as supporting characters. Radhika Apte Mere Kete gave a great performance in Minute Dasek.
I am not a cinema buff, I don’t understand the nitty-gritty of films. But what I see is very detailed. And not all movies that you want to watch in detail. Merry Christmas manages to do that. 2024 is my first film to sit and watch in this hall, I am very happy that it is so fulfilling.
